Parrots have become very popular cage and aviary birds since the introduction of protection laws and export bans from their various countries of origin. This has been particularly noticeable in the case of Australian parrot-like birds. Many other countries have now introduced similar legislation restricting availability of once common caged parrots. Such action has encouraged the breeding and hand rearing of parrots in captivity and this has become a lucrative pastime for many. Throughout the world there are now companies set up especially to breed and sell parrots.
